Diverticulitis and Diverticulosis – Could Colon Cleansing Avoid The Pain Of Diverticuar Disease

Diverticulitis and diverticulosis are in fact two different conditions – diverticulitis is when pouches bulge out of the colon and these pouches, which are known as diverticula become inflamed.

Diverticulosis, is when you have the diverticula but they have not yet become inflamed. Diverticulosis symptoms are constipation, bloating and cramping. There may also be some inflammation and bleeding. If you are seeing bright red blood from your rectum the diverticula are bleeding. The bleeding may not cause you any pain but you should see your doctor straight away because it may be serious.

If you have diverticulitis, and the pouches have become inflamed, the symptoms will be different. You may suffer from any of the following: pain in the lower part of the abdomen, nauseas with a fever, vomiting and a change in your bowel habits. If you think it is possible that you have diverticulitis it is essential that you see a doctor straight away.

Many doctors agree that one of the main reasons for diverticulitis is a diet low in fiber. If you do not eat enough fiber you are likely to suffer from constipation and this makes it likely that you will strain when you go to the toilet, this straining can lead to the development of diverticula. Also, if the colon is not being cleaned properly the waste that is left behind encourages bacteria and the bacteria will cause the diverticula to become inflamed and the development of diverticulitis.

Diverticular disease does not always have to be serious, if it is you can suffer from rips in the pouches, bleeding, blockages and if it gets very serious, a hole could develop in your colon and faeces can leak into your abdomen.

How do you avoid diverticular disease? You should eat a diet that contains plenty of fiber that means lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, whole grains such as pasta, bread,  and brown rice, and legumes such as lentils, kidney beans and chick peas. Plus you have to drink plenty of water, it doesn’t matter how much fiber you eat unless it has water to absorb to create soft stools.

If you feel your diet has not been very healthy and you are worried that you may be heading towards diverticulitis it may be worth considering a colon cleanse to cleanse your colon of all the waste that has been accumulating over the years, you will then have a nice clean colon to start your new healthy way of eating!
